“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.” – Ferris Bueller

It’s January. A new year begins. We floss a bit more, we drink less (or not at all), and set goals to better ourselves. And bygone it! We’ll stick with them! Til…February. I’ve given up on those goals, those fleeting resolutions. I already floss a few times a week, sometimes, for most of the year, and that’ll have to be enough. Drink less, sure, but I know as soon as summer hits that’ll disappear like Keyser Soze. At this point in my life it’s not going to change, so why fight it? I also hate setting goals that two months from now I’ll have failed, it’s so depressing. So why bother? Last year I set some lofty goals for writing. Publish book two, start on a first draft of book three. Yeah, that didn’t happen and those are the goals I actually care about. That’s why these first few weeks of January I’m reflecting on how I can actually accomplish the goals I need and want. There’s only so much planning, putting tasks in a calendar, or finding the right task organization app that’ll help. At the end of the day, you just have to do it. One day at a time, one step at a time, knowing that each day that passes is building toward the bigger goal. Life gets in the way, and shit does happen, but finding the energy to power through is a must. If it’s something that is truly important. This year, I’m sticking with my big writing goals: publish a second book and get a third book ready to go for drafting (I’m scaling this one back a little). It’s doable. I just have to do it. Like flossing. Speaking of which…
